Ten Comments about today's podcast:
ReplyDelete1.) Idea for Ogre-oid radar: Groidar.
.) Liz Cheney probably would have thought that John Quincy Adams was un-American for defending the slaves who revolted on the Amistad ship. She's an insufferable, reprehensible, soulless demagogue werecunt. The caricature of her is more attractive than she is in real life.
.)I want a copy of "How to Be a Fucking Idiot for Dummies."
.)Another thing not mentioned enough about Bedell is that he was bipolar. Literally. Instead of using his case to draw attention to the appalling state of mental health care in this country, and instead of suggesting that maybe we could try to help folks with mental disorders before they shoot up military installations, and instead of focusing (as Dave mentions) on the gun problem, the news world makes cannabis (as usual) its misguided focus. News stories like this are worthless.
.) Fred Phelps is a fine example of what I see as a red herring. Some media toss him out and talk about free speech as responsible for allowing him to be the atrocius ass that he is, but I think all this really does is encourage Americans in general to think, "Well, at least I'm not as crazy as that fag-hater guy" and "We should change free speech laws and make them more restrictive." Media attention to hyperbolic anal sores like Phelps draws attention away from everyday homophobia and real infringements on the first amendment and trivializes both of these things. In my opinion, the media could best solve the problem of people like Phelps by avoiding him entirely and letting mobs of angry military members have unrestricted access to him. Maybe they could lock him up in a room with what he fears the most: horny women. God wants to kick this guy in the balls.
.) Episode 9 went at least 40 minutes without a cat noise from Dave. There may have been one around the 40-minute mark. Major disappointment.
.) As for gays in the military, what is the purpose of the military? I believe it is to kill people. Sexuality doesn't need to be considered here. Fucking and killing should rarely be considered together (except maybe by the MPAA who seem to think letting kids see killing is much worse than letting them see fucking).
.)Conference tournaments have the same appeal for Americans as the lottery does. Why work hard all your life when you can scratch some wax off a piece of cardobard and get rich? Why play well consistently over an entire season when all you have to do is win the conference tournament? Instant NCAA ticket! Yay! It seems to me that much more emphasis is placed on instant gratification rather than really developing a quality body of work. Maybe that's just my opinion.
.) The BCS can bite me.
.) "Institutionally Driven Dysfunction" would be an awesome name for a book on pedagogical strategy.
