Greetings Pod People!

My apologies for the long stretch of silence here.  The IFPR studios underwent a bit of a technology collapse this year with far too many pieces of equipment malfunctioning or completely breaking (like the OS hard drive in the studio computer, the sound card, a main microphone, and the best mic preamp).  We are slowly pulling things back together and as you can see from your RSS feed new episodes are still trickling up for your enjoyment.  There will be some missing and/or late episodes because of these technical problems (including the one after the election for which a third of the audio is corrupted) but we're back up to date with last week's episode uploading tonight and a new episode recording tonight.  Please stick with us and e-mail us with any questions or comments.  - A

Continuing Discussion of Anti-intellectualism

More people should not go to college and should be able to find meaningful employment without a 4 year degree.  From PBS  From Slate

From the Washington Post:
...[H]ere’s what the Republican Party of Texas wrote into its 2012 platform as part of the section on education:

Knowledge-Based Education – We oppose the teaching of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) (values clarification), critical thinking skills and similar programs that are simply a relabeling of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) (mastery learning) which focus on behavior modification and have the purpose of challenging the student’s fixed beliefs and undermining parental authority.

Yes, you read that right. The party opposes the teaching of “higher order thinking skills” because it believes the purpose is to challenge a student’s “fixed beliefs” and undermine “parental authority.”

Reins Have Been Passed

Hi, Alan here.  Dr. Overbey is now the administrator of this blog and I remain as a writer.  It does not appear that the podcast is going to continue so I'm going to assume the blog will die as well but hopefully I am wrong.  Nobody seems to know what is going on with Dr. Overbey and his communications are sparse and confusing with those he is continuing to talk to.  Hopefully he is not losing his mind (I mean, what is left to lose).  The Ogrefest continues to surge.

MOpod 141

Alrighty, kids.  This was my last MOpod production.  Apparently there were issues with Dr. Overbey's microphone and a large chunk of what he sent me was silence so expect a confusing couple of breaks in his monologue.  Here are some notes from the show:

Toronto mayor Rob Ford possibly caught on video smoking crack.  As of Monday there are reports that the original owner of the video may have been killed by the person currently in possession.

Turns out Faux Noise knew about e-mail records subpeona in 2010 but has decided it's time to be OUTRAGED™!

David Kokesh calls for July 4 armed march on Washington D.C. then changes mind.

Bloomberg and director of Mayors Against Illegal Guns receive ricin filled letters.

Sadly Michelle Bachmann says she won't run for House again.

McConnell tries to link Obama to IRS scandal AND compares him to Nixon in ad:

Overbey still believes in chemtrails.

Dave talks about UK basketball but the beginning and a middle chunk of that are missing.

Penultimate Post by Alan

Hey pod people, it's Alan.  I have decided to leave the Modus Operandi Podcast to Dr. David Overbey and start my own.  For several months Dr. Overbey has been nearly impossible to communicate with and seems to have moved on from the original conversational format of the podcast to presenting a weekly monologue.  As such I feel that I should let him take over this podcast and move on to other projects of my own.  There will be one final MOpod produced by me and then it will be up to David to continue.  It's been a good run, starting in January 2010.  Tomorrow the final episode I will produce will be released as episode 141 and will include David's most recent monologue.  I'm going to take a few weeks off from the podcast world, looking for a new local partner or partners to talk with each week and figuring out my release schedule, etc.  My new podcast will, like my blog, be called Me Talk Big Noise and will appear on iTunes and will be announced on the blog.  I would imagine the format will be similar to the original MOpod, based on an animated discussion of what's going on in the world but may also talk more about the arts and music.  I also plan on presenting a weekly pre-recorded comedy skit about something that happened in the news.  There is a very good chance that the first test episode will be an examination of The Queen of the Batshit Crazy Club Michelle Bachmann's recent announcement of the end of her political career so keep an eye out for Me Talk Big Noise on iTunes.

Be well and bon voyage,
Alan Miller

MOpod episode 140.1

Dr. Overbey recorded this on 5/15/2013 but couldn't be bothered to contact me and let me know he had done so.  I stumbled onto it in my little used gmail account day before yesterday. A second piece will follow shortly.  Subjects Dave covers include:

Death, baseball, boners, armpits, and the importance of never talking about anything that isn't really important like physics.

IRS "Scandal"

1.  It would appear that once word of the practice of targeting new tax free organizations containing words associated with the "Tea Party" "movement" became known by the higher ups the practice was ended.  System worked?

2.  Don't you think that any group whose main purpose is to oppose taxation and whose members explicitly say they hate paying taxes should get closer scrutiny than, say, the Quakers (who got massive shake downs, and CIA and FBI surveillance under Shrub)?

3.  Shouldn't the GOP approve the appointments for judge that are currently vacant (over 85 at last count) or anything that actually matters before spending days on this nonsense?

Interesting Graphs and Stuff From the Gubment

It appears that the GOP's fulminating about the debt and taxes and stuff is as false as it appears to logical people that use reason and facts:  http://www.cbo.gov/sites/default/files/cbofiles/attachments/44172-Baseline2.pdf
